Grief, Loss and Bereavement

We usually associate the emotions of grief and loss with bereavement.

While many of the clients I work with who are grieving are indeed trying to come to terms with the passing of a partner, relative or friend, there are many other situations which can also bring on the anxieties or depression associated with loss.

These include:

  • Loss of trust and sense of betrayal brought on by lying or an affair
  • Loss of mobility or dexterity as a result of an accidents or injury
  • Loss of a job and its status and social engagements
  • Loss of emotional or psychological security
  • Loss of dreams
Each of these specific situations may have left a client with a profound sense of loss.

Each of these specific situations may have left a client with a profound sense of loss.

I work closely with clients, encouraging them to explore the love, relationship, self-esteem, status or other emotional assets that have been lost.

By considering these in the light of their individual need for love, security, social standing and other fundamental human requirements, we work together to envision a future in which these needs will be catered for in new ways, or else demoted in their importance to the client.
